The Health Report on Cancer (HRC) provides answers to current health policy questions on cancer. The National Agency for Cancer Registration (NACR) and the Childhood Cancer Registry (ChCR) are responsible for the HRC. The HRC will be published every three years starting in 2024. The target groups for the HRC include people in science, clinical practice and politics, as well as the interested public. Differentiated analyses and descriptions of the health situation and the care of certain population and patient groups provide an important basis for recommendations to decision-makers and other stakeholders.
The HRC 2024 adresses the risk of a second tumour in people who have already had a tumour at an earlier point in time. Second tumours are new tumours that are independent of the first disease and are different from relapses (recurrences) and metastases. Due to improved diagnostic options and advances in cancer treatment, the chances of survival for most types of cancer are increasing. As a result, the number of cancer survivors in Switzerland is increasing. However, cancer survivors have an increased risk of developing a second tumour.
The HRC 2024 provides insights into the risk of second tumours depending on various factors to support targeted follow-up and optimal treatment for cancer survivors.
